HD Hyundai to Join Hands with Team Naver to Accelerate Digital Transformation

HD Hyundai is joining hands with Team Naver to spur digital transformation.

HD Hyundai announced on March 11 that it signed a business agreement with Team Naver to promote ‘Cloud Transformation and AI Commercialization’ at Naver’s 2nd Data Center ‘GAK Sejong’ located in Sejong City.

The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including Chung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai; Lee Tae-jin, DT Innovation Director of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HDKSOE); Choi Soo-yeon, Naver CEO; and Kim Yoo-won, Naver Cloud CEO.

Through this agreement, both companies plan to jointly carry out ▲HD Hyundai's cloud transformation and utilization of Naver's ultra large scale AI 'Hyperclova X' ▲ Infrastructure advancement for cloud business ▲ HD Hyundai Marine Solution's marine digital application business, etc.

First, Naver’s Large Language Model (LLM) AI ‘Hyperclova X’ will be applied to HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding and marine database (DB) of over 200 million datasets, thus maximizing work efficiency and expertise through delivery and utilization of Generative AI services. In addition, converting the infrastructure built and operated by HD Hyundai into the Naver cloud platform is being promoted.

The two companies will also explore various new business opportunities. For example, HD Hyundai and Team Naver have already been carrying out projects utilizing cloud and AI technologies in the shipbuilding and shipping sectors since the second half of last year, gearing up for the official launch of ‘Meta Ocean Data Cloud’. It is a comprehensive marine data platform built based on the Naver cloud platform to collect operation data of ships all over the world and provide ship owners with necessary information.

The partnership between both companies will be further expanded through HD Hyundai Marine Solution, a comprehensive marine solution company of HD Hyundai. HD Hyundai Marine Solution plans to utilize the data collected through ‘Meta Ocean Data Cloud’ to advance ISS, its next-generation smart ship solution, and commercialize its decarbonization solution ‘Ocean Wise.' Through this, it plans to implement, on the cloud, the overall operation and management of sailing ships including ship carbon intensity (CII: Carbon Intensity Indicator) management, and provide one-stop solutions and consulting.

Furthermore, more detailed consulting services will be provided by applying Naver’s AI technology to the AI Chatbot of HD Hyundai Marine Solution developed for customer communications on after-sales service for ships and engines.

Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver said, “I look forward to growing together by creating a new business model through integrating HD Hyundai’s long-accumulated knowledge assets, business capabilities, and rich experience in the shipbuilding and offshore sectors with Naver’s technologies and infrastructures,” and added, “Team Naver will continue to be the best partner helping various companies in their efforts toward digital transformation.”

Chung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai, said, “Team Naver’s stable cloud infrastructure and qualified AI technology will serve as the catalyst to advance HD Hyundai’s future vision of Ocean Transformation,” and added, “I hope that the partnership between the two companies will expand further to wider fields.”
