HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Expands Safety Supports to Small-Scale Suppliers
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is stepping up to expand its safety support to small-scale suppliers with fewer than 50 employees.
On March 12, a signing ceremony for the 'Contract for Establishing Self-regulation and Preventive Systems for Suppliers ' was held at the Ulsan headquarters of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The event was attended by CEO Noh Jin-yul of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries; Director Kim Jae-hoon of the Ulsan Office of Ministry of Employment and Labor; and Director Jung Hee-jae of the Ulsan Regional Office of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, as well as representatives from external suppliers.
This agreement aims to expand safety support for small-scale external suppliers, who relatively lack preparedness for the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the application of which has been expanded to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees since January.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will provide support to 20 external suppliers with fewer than 50 regular employees, including the establishment of safety and health management systems, consulting on compliance with industrial safety and health laws, provision of safety and health technical materials, and safety training for foreign workers.
Since 2022, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has been actively providing safety support not only to internal suppliers but also to external suppliers. In November 2022, safety management technical support agreements were signed with five external suppliers involved in ship block production. Additionally, a dedicated safety support team for external suppliers was formed to provide comprehensive support for safety management technology, including safety systems, procedures, standards, and risk assessment systems, over the past year.
This year, the scope of safety management technical support has been expanded to include small-scale suppliers with fewer than 50 employees, particularly focusing on areas related to the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which small-scale suppliers may find challenging to address.
CEO Noh Jin-yul stated, "Establishing safety and health management systems for suppliers and preventing serious accidents are joint responsibilities and obligations of both the main contractor and suppliers," and added, "We will spare no effort in providing all necessary support to ensure the safety of suppliers."
