HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has successfully localized a key component for LNG-fueled vessels through collaboration with Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

HD KSOE announced on Monday, September 29, that it recently held a ceremony in Jinhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, to mark the completion of final performance verification and the awarding of type approval certification for its High Pressure Pump used in LNG fuel supply systems. The pump was independently developed by HD KSOE, while Korean SMEs, including Pritech and Sungmoon, participated in its manufacturing and packaging, further strengthening the significance of its localization.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Nam Young-jun, Head of the SD Business Division at HD KSOE; Kim Jeong-sik, Representative of the Liberian Registry; Kim Sung-yong, Executive Vice President of Bureau Veritas (BV); Park Hae-heum, CEO of Pritech; and Lee Jae-hong, CEO of Sungmoon.

Through this certification, HD KSOE has officially verified the product’s performance and safety, establishing a foundation for commercial deployment and market expansion. Recognized for its technological competitiveness, the product has already secured supply contracts for more than 70 vessels from shipyards in Korea and overseas.

Until now, the high-pressure pump market has been dominated by overseas suppliers, leaving the domestic shipbuilding industry dependent on imports and exposed to challenges such as maintenance constraints and supply chain uncertainties. Through this certification, HD KSOE has secured a foundation for localizing a key component used in eco-friendly vessels while enhancing supply chain stability.

The certification is also significant because it was achieved through close cooperation among HD KSOE, Bureau Veritas, the Liberian Registry, and other related organizations from the early stages of development. Working together with the Liberian Registry from the initial development phase, the project team conducted testing and evaluations that reflected actual vessel operating conditions, enhancing reliability. In addition, rigorous verification by Bureau Veritas further improved the product’s quality and completeness.

Meanwhile, HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding and offshore business has continued to promote shared growth with its partners. Recently, the company made early payments for material costs to support suppliers facing increased financial burdens due to the prolonged Middle East crisis and global supply chain uncertainties. In May of last year, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also held a technology exchange forum with external partner companies to strengthen cooperation and mutual growth.
