▶ Achieves an 86% recycling rate, reducing annual waste generation by 8% and saving KRW 480 million in waste management costs

HD Hyundai Samho (President and CEO Kim Jae-eul) has demonstrated its ESG management competitiveness through international recognition of its efforts to enhance resource circulation and reduce waste generation.

HD Hyundai Samho announced on September 17 that it recently obtained the internationally recognized Zero Waste to Landfill Certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). The certification is a global environmental recognition program that evaluates and grades businesses based on the proportion of waste diverted from landfills through recycling and recovery. Organizations are eligible for certification when they achieve a recycling rate of at least 80%.

To improve its waste recycling rate, HD Hyundai Samho has implemented a range of resource circulation initiatives, including ▲ recycling waste expanded polystyrene (EPS) into ingots for resource recovery, ▲ converting waste synthetic resins into environmentally friendly raw materials and circular energy sources, and ▲ recycling environmentally treated wastewater sludge, dredged soil, and waste sand into eco-friendly materials.

As a result, the company reduced the volume of waste sent to landfills and incineration facilities by 8% annually and achieved cost savings of KRW 480 million in waste treatment expenses. Its recycling rate also increased from 78% in 2023 to 86% last year.

HD Hyundai Samho plans to increase annual waste treatment cost savings to KRW 700 million by 2027 while achieving a recycling rate of over 90% by 2030.
