HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Initiates Training Program to Foster Specialized Shipbuilding Technicians

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has taken the first step towards training 1,000 specialized shipbuilding technicians over the coming year.

On May 25, HHI held a graduation ceremony for the inaugural class of the "1st Professional Technician Training Course" at its Technical Education Institute, celebrating the achievement of 100 trainees in disciplines such as hull assembly (welding and fitting), ship piping, ship electrical systems, and ship machinery.

In specific job categories, approximately 70 individuals in Smart Ship technology (51 in hull assembly, 19 in ship piping), 17 in Smart Ship electrical systems, and 13 in Smart Ship machinery completed a comprehensive ten-week program, acquiring the essential skills and qualifications required by the industry.

This year marks the launch of HHI's Technical Education Institute's "Professional Technician Training Course," with a goal to train 1,000 shipbuilding technicians. This program is an adaptation of the previously offered "Technical Trainee Training Course," tailored to meet the evolving demands of the shipbuilding industry.

During the training period, participants receive a monthly scholarship of 1 million won, inclusive of training allowances, and those residing outside of Ulsan are provided with free accommodation.

Furthermore, upon securing employment in the shipbuilding industry and relocating to Dong-gu, Ulsan, trainees are eligible to receive resettlement support of 3 million won.

Especially, HHI plans to offer preferential right in recruitment for outstanding graduates in Smart Ship technology, who will be considered for positions within HHI's production technology division.

An HHI official emphasized, "The key to enhancing competitiveness in the shipbuilding industry lies in securing skilled technicians," and expressed commitment to continue prioritizing specialized education to nurture technical talent.

The "Professional Technician Training Course" will recruit participants for its third session until June 16, with a total of five recruitment cycles scheduled for this year. Applications can be submitted through the HHI Technical Education Institute website (https://tei.hhi.co.kr).
