▶ 93,000㎥ JANE MAERSK demonstrates the company’s capabilities in building next-generation eco-friendly vessels

HD Hyundai Samho (President and CEO Kim Jae-eul) has strengthened its position in the next-generation eco-friendly vessel market by delivering its first-ever Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC).

HD Hyundai Samho announced on August 27 that it recently delivered the 93,000㎥ very large ammonia carrier JANE MAERSK to the Danish shipping company MAERSK.

As HD Hyundai Samho’s first very large ammonia carrier, JANE MAERSK is the first vessel in a series of ten ships. The vessel measures 221 meters in length, 36.5 meters in width, and 23.6 meters in height, and was built to transport both liquefied ammonia and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The remaining vessels in the series are scheduled to be delivered sequentially through September 2028.

Because ammonia is denser than LPG and has higher corrosive and toxic characteristics, it requires more advanced hull and cargo handling systems than conventional LPG carriers. To address these requirements, JANE MAERSK is equipped with a High Level Alarm system that is activated only under ammonia loading conditions, significantly reducing operator burden and the risk of improper cargo loading.

Meanwhile, as of August 27, HD Hyundai Samho had secured orders for 30 vessels worth USD 4.08 billion this year, achieving 83.2% of its annual order target of USD 4.9 billion. Orders by vessel type include five tankers, eleven very large gas carriers, five LNG carriers, and nine very large ammonia carriers. The company’s order backlog for very large ammonia carriers stands at 22 vessels, valued at USD 2.55 billion.
