HD Hyundai aims to showcase the future of decarbonization and digital technologies at Gastech, the world’s largest gas exhibition.
HD Hyundai announced that it will participate in ‘Gastech 2024’ to be held in Houston, U.S. from September 17 to 20. Approximately 800 companies across the globe will participate in the event, and over 50,000 visitors are expected.
HD Hyundai Vice Chairman Chung Ki-sun and executives from sales, R&D, and engineering will meet global companies such as shipping companies and classification societies to introduce HD Hyundai’s green technologies and discuss ways to further develop shipbuilding and shipping industries.
In this exhibition, HD Hyundai will set up a 420 square-meter comprehensive display booth featuring HD Hyundai Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HDKSOE), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), HD Hyundai Mipo (HMD), HD Hyundai Samho (HSHI), HD Hyundai Marine Solution (HMS) and HD Hyundai Electric. The booth will display HD Hyundai’s eco-friendly ship models such as next-generation LNG carriers, Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU), and Liquefied Carbon Dioxide (LCO2) carriers.
During the event, HD Hyundai will acquire a total of 16 technical certifications and sign MOUs with global classification societies and companies. In particular, it will showcase advanced technologies in the digital transformation and decarbonization of gas carriers.
HD Hyundai plans to receive Approval in Principle (AIP) from the Norwegian accredited registrar (DNV: Det Norske Veritas) for cloud-based digital twin-ship virtual commissioning verification technology for LNG carriers. This technology integrates and connects the digital twin models in the cloud for the LNG carrier’s major systems such as engine, power, and gas systems to form a single ship, allowing for verifying the ship objectively through virtual commissioning.
HD Hyundai will also obtain basic certification from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the design of an unmanned engine room and safety control solution for an ammonia-fueled ship, strengthening the safety of crew members.
Multiple certifications will be also issued for its eco-friendly bunkering ships. To name a few, it is slated to win basic certifications from Lloyd's Register (LR) of the U.K. for its 23,000-cubic-meter ammonia bunkering ship and from the Korean Register (KR) for its 18,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier. Moreover, it will sign an MOU with KR on the joint development of an ammonia fuel supply system.
HD Hyundai Marine Solution plans to receive basic certification from DNV for the retrofit of a carbon dioxide capture, liquefaction, storage, and control system (OCCS: Onboard Carbon Capture System). Through this, the company will expand its business areas by adding OCCS retrofit to its eco-friendly retrofit business.
An HD Hyundai official said, “HD Hyundai is equipped with leading technologies in the decarbonization and digital transformation of ships,” and “We will continue to realize a sustainable future energy ecosystem through continued investment and technology development.”
In addition, HD Hyundai aims to hold a technical seminar targeting shipping companies and classification societies on September 17, the first day of the event. Through the seminar, HD Hyundai will introduce its current status and plans regarding technology development, including trends in gas carriers, progress of electric propulsion systems, and the ship digital transformation roadmap. On September 18 and 19, on top of the meetings with clients that were previously conducted, the company holds an ‘HD RECEPTION’ event to freely share opinions with customers visiting the booth on HD Hyundai’s future eco-friendly ships.
