HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Enhances Organizational Culture Through Online and Offline Communication
The management of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has been actively engaging with employees through various means at the beginning of this year, continuing their efforts for organizational culture innovation. Especially notable is their use of online platforms to facilitate extensive communication with employees of diverse ages and positions.
Recently, CEO Lee Sang-kyun of HD Hyundai held an online "Metaverse Conference," engaging in candid conversations with employees through avatars in virtual space. Approximately 40 employees participated in this conference, discussing topics such as "authoritarian culture within the company," addressing conflicts arising from generational differences in the workplace and exploring solutions. Employees reportedly shared their opinions openly under aliases, discussing even sensitive topics.
The company also conducts online communication through internal communities. Particularly, in the latter half of last year, HD Hyundai established a "Management Q&A" bulletin board within the internal community, enabling direct communication between executives and employees on topics such as company dinner culture and workflow efficiency enhancements.
Offline, the company continues to foster active communication with employees. CEO Lee conducted leadership seminars and orientation sessions for new employees in January. Additionally, he regularly hosts luncheon meetings with newly appointed executives. Notably, on January 30th, CEO Lee had lunch with female team leaders and managers, discussing the challenges of balancing work and childcare.
CEO Lee plans to continue meeting with employees from various ranks, including newly appointed managers and promotion recipients, to build consensus on the company's future vision and management direction.
Furthermore, the company pays close attention to employees working in production sites. As part of a winter event, HD Hyundai operates a mobile food stall, visiting production sites to provide warm fish cake soup. CEO Lee visited Dock 3, where the event was being held on January 25, personally distributing warm meals to employees working in the cold weather, acknowledging their hard work.
CEO Noh Jin-yul of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries regularly meets with foreign workers who have been in Korea for less than six months and foreign national self-governing council members of the same nationality, fostering continuous communication. Particularly, during a meeting with Vietnamese workers in January, CEO Noh expressed gratitude for their hard work in a foreign environment, emphasizing the importance of safety and encouraging them to strive for skill improvement as proud representatives of their home countries.
CEO Noh recently met with Filipino and Sri Lankan workers to listen to their opinions on daily life challenges, safety improvement measures, job training, and more.
In addition, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to host various employee engagement events this year to cultivate a vibrant and energetic corporate culture.
