HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Opens Additional Dormitories Exclusively for Foreign Workers

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) continues its commitment to improving living conditions for foreign workers and aiding their integration into Korean society.

HHI announced on October 20 that it has completed the renovation of "Hwaamjae 3rd Dormitory," a dormitory specifically for foreign workers employed by its partner companies. The dormitory, converted from a former office building known as the Offshore Annex Building, is set to commence occupancy this month.

Hwaamjae 3rd Dormitory, spanning five floors, can accommodate up to 320 residents. It is equipped with amenities such as a dedicated dining hall and fitness center, with menus tailored to suit the palates of foreign residents.

In its ongoing efforts to enhance the living conditions of foreign workers in an unfamiliar environment, HHI has been consistently expanding its foreign worker dormitories. Hwaamjae 3rd Dormitory is the fourth dormitory building made to accommodate foreign workers.

Upon completion of occupancy in Hwaamjae 3rd Dormitory, the total number of foreign workers residing in HHI's dormitories will surpass 2,100.

Notably, newly arrived foreign nationals in Korea typically reside in dormitories, where they have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Korean culture, customs, and language while adapting to life in Korea.

Aside from dormitories, HHI operates various programs to support the adaptation of foreign workers. As the first company in the shipbuilding industry to establish a Foreign Support Center, HHI provides interpretation, administrative support, and counseling services. Additionally, it formed a "Foreign Autonomy Committee" comprising 15 representatives from different nationalities to facilitate communication and address any discomfort or issues related to life in Korea and the company.

HHI also organizes cultural events such as traditional music performances at venues like the Hyundai Art Hall, providing foreign workers with opportunities to experience Korean culture firsthand.

Furthermore, in collaboration with Dong-gu Office and Dongbu Police Station, HHI formed a "Joint Volunteer Patrol" to engage in crime prevention activities, demonstrating its commitment to integrating with the local community.

HHI plans to host the "World Culture Festival" at Daewangam Park in Dong-gu on October 29, featuring traditional cultural experiences, food tastings, and folk performances from around the world, fostering cultural exchange between the local community and foreign residents.
