HD Hyundai’s Construction Equipment Business Signs MOU on Ecosystem Conservation with Korea National Park Service

▶ To provide KRW 50 million financial support until 2027 and will join efforts to conserve and restore Uiryeong-gil

HD Hyundai’s three construction equipment companies will be joining a sustainable restoration project as part of its mission to reach carbon neutrality goals.

The three construction companies of HD Hyundai announced on the 11th that it signed an ‘MOU on Ecosystem Conservation for the Bukhansan National Park Uiryeong-gil’ with the Korea National Park Service on the 10th at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center located in Pangyo, Korea.

With this agreement, HD Hyundai XiteSolution, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, HD Hyundai Infracore will be providing financial aid worth KRW 100 million each year until 2027 which will sum up to KRW 500 million. The three companies will also support different businesses related to conserving and restoring Uiryeong-gil such as eroded trail molding, ecosystem monitoring, and eco-corridor reinforcement. Employees will also be helping out cleaning and removing alien species that are disturbing the ecosystem. Additional services are also planned for those visiting the area, such as a commentary program for visitors and mountain wheelchairs training classes for the physically challenged.

The signing of this agreement is especially meaningful as it is a public-private partnership to reach carbon neutrality, and the three construction equipment companies of HD Hyundai plan to extend their ESG management efforts through the conservation project with national parks in Korea.

A representative of HD Hyundai XiteSolution, the intermediary holding company of HD Hyundai’s construction equipment business, commented, “National parks are one of the greatest absorbents and are precious assets of the natural ecology for the next generation,” and added, “We will do our best to meet the carbon neutrality road map with eco-friendly product releases and fulfill our social responsibilities of maintaining a sustainable ecosystem.”

HD Hyundai XiteSolution, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, and HD Hyundai Infracore will be working to reach carbon neutrality in all business sites by 2050 by gradually mitigating the amount of carbon emitted each year as well as satisfying RE100 by supplying all electricity used in its business sites with renewable energy.

Uiryeong-gil is a 4.5km long eco-trail way which goes through the upper part of Seoul to Gyeonggi Province in Korea. It has great conservational value as it is home to thirteen legally protected species such as the brown hawk-owl, boreal digging frog, and wildcat. The area now requires great attention for conservational management as it reopened in 2009 after being restricted as a secured area for the past 40 years since the crossing of North Korean assassin in 1968.
