HHI's Vice Chairman Wins Global Excellence Award for Quality Management

Han Young-seuk, CEO and Vice Chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) won Global Excellence Award in Quality Management for strengthening quality competitiveness of the Korean shipbuilding industry. The awarding ceremony was held in Seoul during the spring conference of Korean Society for Quality Management on May 20.

With 43 years of experience in the industry, Mr. Han endeavored to innovate quality management by arranging specific plans and policy. His actions stand high in estimation for taking a second leap in the industry during times of recession.

Mr. Han's quality strategy cut the cost of poor quality by one-third compared to 2018, the year he was appointed as the CEO. He also promoted exchange meetings among the HHI Group to share and spread innovative ideas on quality advancement.

Another notable feat is the digital integration of quality management. Big data analysis effectively identifies the root cause of quality problems to prevent recurrence. A smart ship factory project is also in progress that optimizes quality improvement with digital technology by reducing process delays and unused stock.

"It is a great pleasure and honor that our hard work is being recognized despite the long recession," Mr. Han said. "I will continue to develop our competitiveness in the shipbuilding industry with consistent improvement in quality management."
